Closed Cell Foam Delivers Comfort & Strength for a Forever Home
When the team at Unbridled Homes set out to build a “forever home” on a farm property in Madison, they weren’t looking for bare-minimum code compliance—they wanted performance that would last. From comfort and air quality to structural resilience, every detail of this build was intentional. That’s where Louisville Insulation came in.
Working closely with the builder, our team developed a custom insulation plan that prioritized air sealing, structural integrity, and long-term energy savings. The project featured heavy use of closed cell spray foam, chosen for its superior R-value and ability to strengthen wall and roof assemblies. We applied 3 inches of closed cell foam in exterior walls, basement framing, a safe room, and the mudroom area. For the attic, we planned a second-phase application of 10 inches of open cell foam over the drywall ceiling, creating a high-performing vented roof assembly that exceeds code requirements.
Additional upgrades included:
- Air sealing package using can foam and caulking around studs, windows, and doors
- Mineral wool insulation in the basement mechanical area and subfloor
- Targeted open cell foam in a hard-to-reach crawl area, drilled and filled as needed
By using building science to guide every step, the result is a tightly sealed, energy-efficient, and structurally sound home that will serve its owners well for decades to come.
